Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program

Hal Henderson is home of the Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program. Mrs. Angela Capers, a "highly qualified" teacher with exceptional talents, developed the program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Mrs. Karen Graves, a "highly qualified" paraprofessional, works collaboratively with the 2010-2011 teacher, Mrs. Patricia Cook, to continously move the program forward. Mrs. Cook was previously our State Department of Education Technical Assistant who evaluated our program. We have 18 students enrolled in Pre-K. I am also pleased to announce that our site has been recognized by the State Department of Education as "exemplary."

The Best Professional Development

Hello faculty and staff members,

I hope all of you are enjoying your summer vacation! On June 4, we began summer school and all is going well. Sunday through Wednesday of this week, I had the pleasure of attending the "Nuts and Bolts" Symposium in Destin, Florida. I know what you are thinking!!!! Yes, the beach was a wonderful addition; however, believe it or not - the professional development was just as good. The keynote speakers were the best I've ever heard! The breakout sessions were very informative, motivational, and realistic. I wish all of you could have been there with me. I am very excited about our new school year and look forward to sharing what I've learned.

Our first three days back will involve many different professional development activities. I think all of you will be pleasantly surprised with the training and information you will receive. You will not have much time, if any, designated for your classroom. If you wish to work in your classroom, you may want to come early or plan to stay a little longer each day. As soon as I have a definite schedule for the three days, I will blog that information as well.

I hope those of you planning to attend the Language Arts workshop on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, have a positive experience. Please let me know how it goes.

There will be ARI New Hire Training on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 from 8:00 - 3:00 in the Graham Annex Reading Room. There may be a stipend for this day! Even if you aren't a "new hire" and need training in a new grade, you may need to attend. Please contact me if you have questions regarding the ARI training.

I am happy to welcome our new faculty members: Ms. Leah Stephens - 2nd grade and Mrs. Karen Curvin - 2nd grade. I am very excited about them joining our team. Please help make their transition smooth and provide them with any assistance they may need! Also, Mrs. Sharion Gooden will be working with our kindergarten children this year and Mrs. Brooks moved into 3rd grade for a new challenge.

Again, I look forward to seeing all of you on Monday, August 6, 2007, at 8:00 a.m. at THS. If you would like to work in your classroom before that day, I will be here most of the summer. I will be out of the office July 16-20, 2007. Shane, Brady, and I will take our first family vacation. If you need me, you may reach me on my cell phone.

Enjoy your summer!!!!!!
