Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program

Hal Henderson is home of the Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program. Mrs. Angela Capers, a "highly qualified" teacher with exceptional talents, developed the program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Mrs. Karen Graves, a "highly qualified" paraprofessional, works collaboratively with the 2010-2011 teacher, Mrs. Patricia Cook, to continously move the program forward. Mrs. Cook was previously our State Department of Education Technical Assistant who evaluated our program. We have 18 students enrolled in Pre-K. I am also pleased to announce that our site has been recognized by the State Department of Education as "exemplary."

MARCH MADNESS! We need your help....

Northside Hal Henderson has been selected as the March School of the Month. During the month of March, Hal Henderson and First National Bank will partner together to raise money for our school. First National Bank will hang a banner outside our school and provide us with a large jug for all donations small or large. First National Bank will also place collection jugs at all three First National Bank branches as a convenience for all customers. At the end of March, First National Bank will collect/count/sort all money received and present Hal Henderson with a check.

Hal Henderson will be featured on First National Bank's "Cash for the Classroom" website. For your convenience, you may visit First National Bank's site and make a donation online. To donate online, click here. Please tell all family and friends to donate at one of the local branches or online.

Hal Henderson has state of the art technology in four classrooms. We are hoping to purchase two additional promethean boards at an estimated cost of $7,000.00 each. Please help us in our efforts. Our third, fifth and sixth grade students enjoy the promethean boards. Through the use of promethean boards, students are actively engaged 100% of the time. Students can interact with the software using pens and flip charts created by the teacher. Students can also use the individual activote clickers to submit answers to multiple choice questions created by the teacher to demonstrate knowledge of Course of Study objectives. Promethean boards also give teachers the opportunity to use the software with web-based programs such as Study Island. Students can interact with the Study Island program using activote clickers and get immediate feedback regarding knowledge of content. This is one way to meet individual needs of all students. With the current movement in technology, teachers at Henderson are "keeping up with the game" by using promethean boards and software on a daily basis. Students are learning while having fun! Learning is so much fun, students stay focused throughout the lesson. Standardized test results have indicated improved reading and math scores.

Help us in our efforts by donating at local branches or online. You may also help by allowing your child to participate in the upcoming activities scheduled for the month of March. March activities are listed below:

According to First National Bank, Graham Elementary in Talladega is in the lead with $5,632.49. Our goal is to raise $7,000.00 during the month of March. Let's work together to educate our children using state of the art technology!
