Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program

Hal Henderson is home of the Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program. Mrs. Angela Capers, a "highly qualified" teacher with exceptional talents, developed the program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Mrs. Karen Graves, a "highly qualified" paraprofessional, works collaboratively with the 2010-2011 teacher, Mrs. Patricia Cook, to continously move the program forward. Mrs. Cook was previously our State Department of Education Technical Assistant who evaluated our program. We have 18 students enrolled in Pre-K. I am also pleased to announce that our site has been recognized by the State Department of Education as "exemplary."

It’s time to put our heads together for a new plan of action. On August 6, 2007, we will kick off the new school year with Institute at Talladega High School. Please report directly to THS at 8:00 a.m. Barbara Blackburn is the guest speaker. She is the author of two books - Classroom Instruction from A to Z and Classroom Motivation from A to Z. She interviewed me last year and plans to include Supper Club and other ideas from our school in her next book. I haven’t met her, but based on our phone interview, I believe she will be great. After looking at ARMT and Stanford-10 scores, I am proud to say I believe we will make AYP once again. Hooray!!!! Thanks for your dedication to our children. I have several professional development ideas to share with you on Wednesday, and I look forward to working with you as we continue raising the bar on student achievement. Together, we will provide our children with an exemplary school environment that is conducive to learning. We have three new people on staff this school year – Ms. Leah Stephens, Mrs. Karen Curvin, and Mrs. Sabrina Williard. Please welcome them to our family.

All of you will be automatically signed up for Institute; however, you will need to locate the sign in sheet on Monday to sign in. If for some reason your name isn’t listed, sign at the bottom. I will also sign all of you up for Monday afternoon; however, you will need to check the enclosed agenda and sign up for the appropriate training sessions for the remainder of the week. If you have any questions or need assistance with the web address, user name or password, see me on Monday. New teachers may not be able to sign-up through PD Web at this time; however, we will take care of that during the first week.

I hope you had a wonderful, relaxing summer and I look forward to seeing all of you on Monday.
