Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program

Hal Henderson is home of the Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program. Mrs. Angela Capers, a "highly qualified" teacher with exceptional talents, developed the program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Mrs. Karen Graves, a "highly qualified" paraprofessional, works collaboratively with the 2010-2011 teacher, Mrs. Patricia Cook, to continously move the program forward. Mrs. Cook was previously our State Department of Education Technical Assistant who evaluated our program. We have 18 students enrolled in Pre-K. I am also pleased to announce that our site has been recognized by the State Department of Education as "exemplary."

WELCOME BACK "TIGGERIFIC" TEAM PLAYERS!

The 2010-2011 school year is just around the corner!
I know all of you are well rested and looking forward to many new faces, a new challenge, and an exciting school year.

I HAVE SPOKEN WITH MOST OF YOU REGARDING SCORES, BUT FOR THOSE WHO ARE STILL OUT THERE WONDERING, I BELIEVE I CAN SAFELY SAY - CONGRATULATIONS - YOU DID IT!!!!!

Our ARMT scores look GREAT. Based on the AYP determination chart, it appears we have made AYP. We exceeded the State goals and are positive in reading and math. According to preliminary results, we only had three students score level "1" in the entire school. Great work!

At a glance, it appears Mr. Berry's sixth graders had the highest percentage in reading. Mrs. Clay was a close second in sixth grade math. Mrs. Horn's fourth grade reading class was in third place and did extremely well. Ms. Williams' fourth grade math students also ran a close race and did very well. Third grade made huge gains this year in reading and math. Congratulations to Mr. Berry, Mrs. Clay, Ms. Williams, Mrs. Horn and Mrs. Sims. Keep up the great work...

We have a new team player in first grade this year - Mrs. Katie Batson! Please welcome Mrs. Batson to our "tiggerific" team. She comes to us with talent, young energy, and a love for teaching.

As you arrive on the first day, you will notice many changes. The bathrooms have been painted, six classrooms have been painted, three classrooms have new window treatments, and four classrooms have NEW PROMETHEAN boards. I am proud to say, with the exception of three teachers, all of Henderson's classrooms are equipped with promethean boards. I am thrilled with the new technology and I know each of you will now have additional resources and new ideas for the upcoming year. We ARE "Moving Forward!"

A special "Thank You" to the Student Life Group for painting classrooms and cleaning windows. Thanks to Mr. Berry, Mrs. Horn, Mrs. Clay, and Mrs. D. Stephens for painting bathrooms. Thanks to Mr. Wilson for keeping our building clean, painting, moving furniture, organizing the Student Life Group, and taking care of our beautiful flowers during the summer! Thanks to Mrs. Hannah for keeping our books/records on target. Our first audit was last week and it was PERFECT! I am very grateful for such a dedicated school family!

We have a few new challenges for the coming year, but with the many talents among our team members, I know we will be successful in meeting and exceeding our goals. I look forward to seeing all of you and I know your "wheels are turning" as we prepare for a new beginning.
