Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program

Hal Henderson is home of the Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program. Mrs. Angela Capers, a "highly qualified" teacher with exceptional talents, developed the program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Mrs. Karen Graves, a "highly qualified" paraprofessional, works collaboratively with the 2010-2011 teacher, Mrs. Patricia Cook, to continously move the program forward. Mrs. Cook was previously our State Department of Education Technical Assistant who evaluated our program. We have 18 students enrolled in Pre-K. I am also pleased to announce that our site has been recognized by the State Department of Education as "exemplary."

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK!

"THE CAPACITY FOR EACH LEARNER TO COMPREHEND AND PROCESS INFORMATION IS DEPENDENT ON THE OPPORTUNITIES WE PROVIDE TO REFRESH, REFINE, AND REEXAMINE STUDENT THINKING."

Something to think about....

1. Share procedures that will prove effective in weighing the usefulness of new methodology.
2. Identify specific assignments or follow-up activities that you may construct as you apply the power tools in your classroom.
3. What changes or corrections are you considering as a result of your understanding of the power tools?
4. What does this statement mean to you? "The capacity for each learner to comprehend and process information is dependent on the opportunities we provide to refresh, refine, and reexamine student thinking."

ONLY 11 instructional days left - TEACH! TEACH! TEACH!

Next week is Spring Break. I hope all of you enjoy your time off and get some well deserved rest. When you return on Monday, March 24, 2008, we will all have to hit the door running. As you know, our students lose information during Spring Break. You will need to reteach some skills. Give a post test to determine student weaknesses and use that test as your tool for remediation. Before you leave on Friday, make sure you have materials prepared and plans for Monday. We can't afford to miss any instructional days. PLAN AHEAD!!! BE PREPARED!!! USE YOUR TIME WISELY!!! EFFECTIVE INSTRUCTION AND STUDENT ENGAGEMENT LEADS TO POSITIVE TEST SCORES.

LET'S MAKE IT 4 YEARS IN A ROW! LET'S NOT ONLY MAKE IT - LET'S SHOW GAINS IN READING AND MATH. THE CHALLENGE IS YOURS AND YOU ALWAYS RISE TO ANY CHALLENGE. GOOD LUCK!

The Black History Program was a huge success. We have such talented boys and girls. Thanks to all of you for a job well done - you prepared the students well. I appreciate all of you pulling together once again. The team effort at Henderson always makes me proud. Keep up the great work!
