Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program

Hal Henderson is home of the Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program. Mrs. Angela Capers, a "highly qualified" teacher with exceptional talents, developed the program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Mrs. Karen Graves, a "highly qualified" paraprofessional, works collaboratively with the 2010-2011 teacher, Mrs. Patricia Cook, to continously move the program forward. Mrs. Cook was previously our State Department of Education Technical Assistant who evaluated our program. We have 18 students enrolled in Pre-K. I am also pleased to announce that our site has been recognized by the State Department of Education as "exemplary."

CONGRATULATIONS KINDERGARTEN-3RD GRADE

Congratulations kindergarten, first, second and third grades. We are so very proud of all of you on your DIBELS scores. First grade - you deserve a gold crown - 0% intensive in Oral Reading Fluency - WOW!!!! Only 6 kids total were strategic in oral reading and all others benchmarked - AMAZING!!!. All of you should be commended for your hard work and dedication. You have truly worked miracles!

Great work, Mr. Berry on 5th and 6th grade STAR results. It is obvious that students are building comprehension skills. You are doing a tremendous job with reading at both levels. Keep up the hard work! I knew you could do it....

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK!
"THE SKILLS WE LEARN TO REACH ONE LEARNER WILL PROVIDE THE SKILLS WE NEED TO REACH ANOTHER."

Something to think about....

1. Think of a teacher you know who seems to succeed with all students. To what do you attribute his or her success? We could apply this very statement to our first grade teachers!

2. What do you consider the most difficult aspects of teaching and reaching all students?

3. What strategies can be used to show compassion for students' difficulties without compromising expectations?

4. Share ways to influence students who often make excuses regarding their work. Mr. Berry has ideas to share - he is a resource for ways of positively influencing children. His background and classroom management techniques are worth sharing.

As you know, this is a short week.

Monday - BBSST - 2:45
Tuesday - Monthly fire drill
Wednesday - Early dismissal at 12:30/End 3rd Six Weeks

JUST A REMINDER.....

*All grades should be posted before leaving on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007.

*Everyone should be signed up for 2 professional development sessions before leaving school today - Dec. 17th.

*Our Henderson Christmas Party will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the lunchroom. We will enjoy a wonderful lunch together (without children) and play our traditional "Dirty Santa" game. Don't forget your $10.00 gift!

MOST OF YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB CHECKING AND RESPONDING TO E-MAIL. Others are not doing so well! PLEASE CHECK YOUR E-MAIL TWICE DAILY - MORNING AND EVENING! YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON INFORMATION. MAKE CHECKING E-MAIL PART OF YOUR DAILY ROUTINE - IT'S THE HENDERSON LAW!!!!

"Tiggerific Christmas"

Thank you 3rd grade teachers, Ms. Horn & Ms. Williard, for our beautiful bulletin board.

Congratulations to Breanna & Adam for representing Hal Henderson's King & Queen in grades K-3.

LaArielle was crowned Hal Henderson's Harvest Queen in grades 4-6. Our king and queens are outstanding students who represent our school and their classmates well.

Such a beautiful smile from Skye Collins showing her love for Auburn!

Kindergarten teachers, Ms. Gaskin & Mrs. Gooden, display Christmas Spirit and show off the artistic talent of their kindergarten children.

Kindergarten twins, Morgan & Megan, smile in front of our Christmas tree donated by Marvin's.

Special thanks to Mrs. Haney, Kindergarten and our 5th & 6th Grade students for making our "Tiggerific" decorations for the Christmas tree. We are proud of our tree.

Mrs. Haney, Librarian, came up with the wonderful idea for Christmas Ornaments. She assisted the students as they made "tiggerific" ornaments.

The finished product...Thanks to Mrs. Haney for her creativity!
Thanks to Marvin's for donating the beautiful tree to Hal Henderson.

The faculty/staff of Hal Henderson hope you & yours have a safe and "Tiggerific" Holiday Season.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK!

"THERE IS NO BIGGER THRILL THAN HELPING A CHILD GET ON THE RIGHT PATH."

Something to think about....

1. What are your strenghts in your ability to be a turnaround specialist?
2. What resources do you turn to turn a student around when you feel helpless?
3. In a typical conversation with students, how much time do you spend listening to identify demotivating conditions?
4. What types of benefits do students wish to receive as a result of being a better student?
5. Share with a coworker examples of insights students have shared regarding what they need to change in order to experience learning success.

I want to thank all of you for keeping our school going last week in my absence. With "Buster" the school bus and the Missoula Theater performance along with day-to-day routines, you did a marvelous job! Some of you e-mailed questions and we were able to communicate via my blackberry, and I appreciate you asking and keeping in touch when questions and concerns came up. This is just another example of our outstanding teamwork! Keep up the good work!
