Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program

Hal Henderson is home of the Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program. Mrs. Angela Capers, a "highly qualified" teacher with exceptional talents, developed the program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Mrs. Karen Graves, a "highly qualified" paraprofessional, works collaboratively with the 2010-2011 teacher, Mrs. Patricia Cook, to continously move the program forward. Mrs. Cook was previously our State Department of Education Technical Assistant who evaluated our program. We have 18 students enrolled in Pre-K. I am also pleased to announce that our site has been recognized by the State Department of Education as "exemplary."

Our Kindergarten students are off to a great start. Mrs. Gooden's students were required to identify upper and lowercase letters in order to get a pass out of the classroom to computer or library. "What a great way to line up!" All of her students have been good listeners and very well behaved in the hallway. Keep up the good work!

Ms. Gaskin has a creative way of teaching students to walk in a straight line in the hallway. Tying a tie together creates a wonderful tool for keeping children in line. There are obviously many ways in which an old tie can be useful. The children did a great job and seemed to enjoy the trip down the hallway.

We are very proud of our "little one's!"

Although we had a wonderful first week and things are going really well, our boys and girls seem a bit too excited in the afternoons. I need all teachers to stand in their doorway once the first bus is called to monitor hallways. Please remain in your doorway until all children are gone. Children are running down the hallway and are louder than I would like for them to be. Please help with this each afternoon!

Welcome to Northside Hal Henderson

NORTHSIDE HAL HENDERSON IS A "TIGGERIFIC" SCHOOL

Thanks to the wonderful leadership & organizational skills that our great principal, Mrs. Laros, instilled in her faculty before the 1st day of school, the 1st day and every day thereafter (so far) has run smoothly. Mrs. Laros asked for the faculty's input on what they thought would make the 1st week of school better, some offered their suggestions (while other's slept.)

On the first day, all teachers were busy reviewing classroom procedures and giving students the opportunity to be part of setting the rules.

Mrs.Gooden showing her precious Kindergarten how to stand in a straight line.

Ms.Gaskin showing her Kindergarten how "The Magic Fairy" keeps them quiet.

Mrs.Capers explains procedures to her 1st grade "angels".

Mr.Smith discussing 4th grade expectations.

Mr.Goodwin explains to his 5th grade students that "ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!"

Mr.Berry reminds his 6th grade students, "There will be NO SLACKING!"

We are all such a happy family here at Henderson because of our "GREAT LEADER." We care & appreciate all Mrs. Laros does. This makes us the "circle" that we are.

Thanks so very much for all of your hard work, dedication, and time spent helping to make sure our children had a wonderful start to a new school year. A special thanks to all of you who worked during the summer and late afternoons to prepare your classrooms. Everything looks wonderful! Please thank Mr. Wilson for the outstanding job he did on the floors and painting the workroom.

The first two days were excellent!!! If the rest of our year runs as smoothly as the first two days (and I know it will), we will all have a wonderful year. Please continue to plan and prepare ahead of time. Our students need you...

Welcome Back!!!!

ImageChef.com - Custom comment codes for MySpace, Hi5, Friendster and more

It’s time to put our heads together for a new plan of action. On August 6, 2007, we will kick off the new school year with Institute at Talladega High School. Please report directly to THS at 8:00 a.m. Barbara Blackburn is the guest speaker. She is the author of two books - Classroom Instruction from A to Z and Classroom Motivation from A to Z. She interviewed me last year and plans to include Supper Club and other ideas from our school in her next book. I haven’t met her, but based on our phone interview, I believe she will be great. To view additional information and comments from other individuals click here.

After looking at ARMT and Stanford-10 scores, I am proud to say I believe we will make AYP once again. Hooray!!!! Thanks for your dedication to our children. I have several professional development ideas to share with you on Wednesday, and I look forward to working with you as we continue raising the bar on student achievement. Together, we will provide our children with an exemplary school environment that is conducive to learning. We have three new people on staff this school year – Ms. Leah Stephens, Mrs. Karen Curvin, and Mrs. Sabrina Williard. Please welcome them to our family.

All of you will be automatically signed up for Institute; however, you will need to locate the sign in sheet on Monday to sign in. If for some reason your name isn’t listed, sign at the bottom. I will also sign all of you up for Monday afternoon; however, you will need to check the enclosed agenda and sign up for the appropriate training sessions for the remainder of the week. If you have any questions or need assistance with the web address, user name or password, see me on Monday. New teachers may not be able to sign-up through PD Web at this time; however, we will take care of that during the first week.

I hope you had a wonderful, relaxing summer and I look forward to seeing all of you on Monday.
