Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program

Hal Henderson is home of the Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program. Mrs. Angela Capers, a "highly qualified" teacher with exceptional talents, developed the program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Mrs. Karen Graves, a "highly qualified" paraprofessional, works collaboratively with the 2010-2011 teacher, Mrs. Patricia Cook, to continously move the program forward. Mrs. Cook was previously our State Department of Education Technical Assistant who evaluated our program. We have 18 students enrolled in Pre-K. I am also pleased to announce that our site has been recognized by the State Department of Education as "exemplary."

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

"It's rare for a teacher to only have one challenge on his or her plate."

Are you overwhelmed? Think about the following questions. Your answers or attitude may assist you in finding ways to gain control.

1. What factors or tasks cause you to feel overwhelmed?

2. Rate your flexibility. How does your flexibility or lack of flexibility affect the feeling of being overwhelmed?

3. What role does attitude play in juggling tasks?

4. List the advantages of organization by (sequence) (priority). Being prepared will reduce stress. When we "fly by the seat of our pants" we are the cause of our own stress.

5. What can you teach students about handling life situations that seem overwhelming to them? It helps to "practice what we preach!"

The Dribbling Team from Hoover City Schools (Deer Valley Elementary) was a wonderful experience for our children. It seems all faculty and staff enjoyed the show as well. Several of you have mentioned beginning our very own "Dribbling Team." If you would like to see our students have this opportunity, please e-mail me with your thoughts on the idea. Our students were well behaved and I appreciate your cooperation with all events/activities here at Henderson.

I want to thank everyone who helped with the Breakfast in honor of our Board Members. The food was delicious, the decorations were wonderful, and the students were well behaved. I appreciate all of you and I hope everyone received a plate this morning. I am so proud of our school and all we have accomplished. We are the best and I want everyone to know about it. Keep up the great work!

"THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK"

"Charisma is always a huge advantage to its holder."

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!!!!

When planning lessons, an effective teacher asks herself/himself the following questions:

1. What techniques do I use to ensure that I think in terms of teaching individuals rather than a roomful of students?

2. What strategies do I use to create individual relationships with students?

3. How does the power of an advocate show in the life of a student?

4. What traits do students model as a result of their contact with advocates?

5. Why does committing to being an advocate for every student give me the highest probability of professional success?

What are YOUR answers?

THINK ABOUT IT!!!
In order for outsiders to think Hal Henderson is great - WE have to first think we are great! What are you doing to make our school a great learning environment and a great place to be? Make it a great day - everyday!!!

"THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK"

"We are in the profession of creating bright futures."

WELCOME BACK!!!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, Happy New Year, and was able to get much needed rest. Shane, Brady, and I had a wonderful holiday. Believe it or not, I stayed home with Brady the majority of the time. Since my six week maternity leave was only a week long, I truly enjoyed being able to spend this time with Brady.
Before Christmas, Mrs. Horn's mother had a massive stroke and heart attack and is in critical condition in Birmingham. The prognosis doesn't look good at this time. Please keep them in your prayers!

With the new year upon us, we have a great deal of work to do before testing in April. Please take advantage of every day with your students. They can't do well if we don't prepare them!!
