Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program

Hal Henderson is home of the Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program. Mrs. Angela Capers, a "highly qualified" teacher with exceptional talents, developed the program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Mrs. Karen Graves, a "highly qualified" paraprofessional, works collaboratively with the 2010-2011 teacher, Mrs. Patricia Cook, to continously move the program forward. Mrs. Cook was previously our State Department of Education Technical Assistant who evaluated our program. We have 18 students enrolled in Pre-K. I am also pleased to announce that our site has been recognized by the State Department of Education as "exemplary."

"BUSTER" THE SCHOOL BUS

Hal Henderson students enjoyed learning Bus Safety rules from their new friend, Buster. Buster discussed the danger zone, safety at the bus stop, and how to be a safe bus rider. Buster asked for volunteers in demonstrating certain safety issues such as loading and unloading the bus. Buster ended his demonstration with a question for the teachers. Unfortunately, the teachers were not paying attention and were unable to answer Buster's question correctly. After a group discussion and still an incorrect answer, Buster was forced to squirt the teachers with water. Everyone enjoyed the program!

"Smokey the Bear" visits Hal Henderson

On Wednesday, October 25, 2006, Eric Wiley and Smokey the Bear came to our school to inform us about the hazards of fire. They shared a great video and lots of information about safety when camping in the woods and using matches. The boys and girls in kindergarten through third grades truly enjoyed themselves and loved getting to shake Smokey's hand as they left the room.

"THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!"

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for the kind words, phone calls, and prayers during my family illness. Shane, Brady, and I appreciate all of you!
I understand my BIRTHDAY CAKES were delicious and I hate I missed out, but I am very glad all of you were able to enjoy them in my absence. You are all very sweet and thoughtful. I truly appreciate the $50.00 Dillard's gift card and the birthday card was perfect, too. I love to shop and will enjoy spending the day buying things for myself. Since Brady was born, there hasn't been many shopping days for myself. As most of you know, all of my money goes to daycare, diapers, pictures, and clothes for Brady. Cristy, I love the bracelet and the wind chime. You were so sweet to think of me while in Gatlinburg celebrating your 1st Anniversary. The bulletin board was so sweet - I plan to hang it in my office. Thanks Sandy for the sweet card and plant for my office-it was just what I needed. Mrs. Barksdale, I know the cakes were delicious, and I truly appreciate all of the cooking you do for all of us. You truly are an asset to our faculty and we are "fat and happy" to have you here.
Thanks again for everything! You are all very "special" and I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such a WONDERFUL group of women and men.
