Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program

Hal Henderson is home of the Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program. Mrs. Angela Capers, a "highly qualified" teacher with exceptional talents, developed the program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Mrs. Karen Graves, a "highly qualified" paraprofessional, works collaboratively with the 2010-2011 teacher, Mrs. Patricia Cook, to continously move the program forward. Mrs. Cook was previously our State Department of Education Technical Assistant who evaluated our program. We have 18 students enrolled in Pre-K. I am also pleased to announce that our site has been recognized by the State Department of Education as "exemplary."

"Boss's Day" turned into a Spectacular Week

Hal Henderson faculty and staff celebrated Boss's Day with our WONDERFUL principal the whole week with food and gifts. We wanted her to know how much she is appreciated for all she does each day. She received a large basketfull of goodies, a tray of fall decorations and candy corn, her favorite drink- diet Dr. Pepper, a darling school lamp with children on a bus with a large tote bag, some sweet smelling body lotions/fragrances from Mary Kay, an Auburn tray, a scrapbook for Brady, and a flower arrangement from the faculty and staff with many, many beautiful cards of gratitude.
On Thursday, a brunch was held and Mrs. Laros asked sixth grade girls to watch classes briefly so that each teacher could fix a plate and celebrate with her. We had lots of good food to eat and had a great time. Thank you Mrs. Laros for being a great leader and also our friend. We love you.

Please encourage/remind students daily about purchasing yearbooks. If you need additional forms, please see Mrs. Haney.

Congratulations to Mrs. Horn's class for leading the way in Accelerated Reader points!

Please require your students to read books on his/her level. Please monitor your AR program - I have recently found students with reading levels of 5.0-6.0 reading 0.9 books for points. This may give them points; however, it will not improve comprehension, fluency, or vocabulary. Do not allow your students to do this. Call parents if you find that this is happening. Please warn your students and inform them that you and I are monitoring this program.

FYI
As most of you know, Mr. Bobby Malone's wife passed away this past week. On behalf of our faculty and staff, a large peace lily plant was delivered to the funeral home and a card was mailed to his home address. Please keep Mr. Malone and his family in your prayers!

Ms. Duncan's Retirement Celebration

On Wednesday, September 27, 2006, we celebrated Ms. Duncan's retirement. The celebration was "bitter-sweet." Ms. Duncan has been a special member of the Hal Henderson Faculty, and she will truly be missed by ALL. Ms. Duncan's friends were invited to attend and all of the Henderson faculty and staff pitched in to make it a beautiful event. Ms. Duncan had several gifts to open, and I believe she loved each and every one of them. Hal Henderson faculty and staff gave Ms. Duncan salt and pepper shakers to add to her collection, a chain, and a "J" charm.
Ms. Duncan's smiling face and positive comments were an asset to the school. She always brought charm and enthusiasm on Tuesday and Thursday. Ms. Duncan was described by all as a "special friend" who made such a difference in the lives of both students and adults. Ms. Davis described Ms. Duncan as a "saint." Good luck, Ms. Duncan, we hope you play all the tennis you wish to play in your free time. Please come back for a visit.
