Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program

Hal Henderson is home of the Talladega City Schools Pre-K Program. Mrs. Angela Capers, a "highly qualified" teacher with exceptional talents, developed the program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Mrs. Karen Graves, a "highly qualified" paraprofessional, works collaboratively with the 2010-2011 teacher, Mrs. Patricia Cook, to continously move the program forward. Mrs. Cook was previously our State Department of Education Technical Assistant who evaluated our program. We have 18 students enrolled in Pre-K. I am also pleased to announce that our site has been recognized by the State Department of Education as "exemplary."

Week of September 25, 2006

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK!!!

THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR EACH OF US ..... IS TO DO WHAT WE SAY WE WILL DO!!!
Monday - Achievement Assembly - 1:00 p.m. - 2nd - 6th grade

Wednesday - Fire Drill (since I forgot on Friday-sorry!)

Just a reminder - This is Ms. JoAnne Duncan's last week with us. We will all truly miss her. She always has a smiling face and kind words for everyone. When you see her, let her know how much we appreciate all she had done for our children.
Please continue to work hard educating our children and encourage them all day - everyday!!!!! They may not appreciate you today, but they will one day!!!! Remember, you and I were once young people who did not appreciate anyone and knew everything.

Week of September 18-22, 2006

"THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK!"

Unless we know the reason for a misbehavior, it's hard to take the right action to correct it.

Please carefully read the "Master Teacher" brochure I placed in your mailbox. The information is valuable and really encourages you to think about your management techniques within your classroom.

K-2 DIBELS AWARDS

All K-2 students were very excited about the awards they received on Friday, September 15, 2006. Approximately 40 students benchmarked during Fall testing. Although the majority of the students who benchmarked were out of 1st grade, I think we will see larger benchmark numbers in all grades during Winter testing. Each student received a certificate and a pencil. All students were well-behaved during the assembly. The students were encouraged to work hard over the next few months because during Winter assembly we will be inviting special guests (parents and grandparents) to the awards ceremony. We must always remember to thank our teachers for the hard work and dedication to our students. Without great teachers - we could not have great students! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

STUDENT OF THE MONTH

Our "Student of the Month" celebration encourages students to "be on their best behavior." One student is selected monthly by each teacher for displaying positive behavior. The students are rewarded with a pizza luncheon. Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Foster, Mrs. Laros, and Mrs. Sims often eat lunch with the students. The students enjoy a personalized place mat, ice cream, and their picture displayed outside the office. This is an exciting event for our students so please encourage students throughout the month and remind them of the positive rewards they will receive. When I remove the pictures from the wall at the end of the month, I will send them to your classroom. It would be great if you displayed the pictures of the chosen students inside your classroom throughout the school year. Maybe you could create your very own "student of the month" wall as a reminder of the positive rewards for outstanding behavior.

CRITTERS SHOW

On Thursday, August 31, 2006, our students enjoyed a visit from some interesting Critters. Critter Rick does an oustanding job explaining animal habitats and incorporating geography and math lessons into his shows. The students were well behaved and we all enjoyed the "critters." The monkey is always my favorite because they are most like humans. Encourage your students to write about the show. Ask students to draw and describe his or her favorite animal and explain why that particular animal was chosen as the favorite. It would be great to see the writing displayed inside or outside your classroom.
